The ABCs of Cardiovascular Health

Heart Attack Symptoms

I am a 65-year old retired man who lives alone in a small house. It’s a daily ritual for me to tend to my mini-garden everyday. While carefully pulling out the weeds from the ground – I was on all fours – I felt a sudden pain in my chest.

I actually had to lay on the ground to appease what I mistook for heart burn, but it didn’t go away. Screaming for help, it was a neighbor who rushed by my side to help.

When I came to, my doctor told me that I had a relatively mild heart attack. He warned that the attack may not be so mild next time, so I was warned off fatty foods, was given prescription medication and was ordered to do aerobics exercise.

Naturally, they were to be age-appropriate aerobics exercise. I considered the doctor’s orders to be the ABC: Aerobics Burning Challenge.

The ‘burning’ part stands for burning the excess calories that I have while boosting my heart’s strength. As I mentioned earlier, my poor old heart – which has nerves already damaged from the first mild heart attack – could probably not stand another one. So in the best way that I can, I am trying to keep a second heart attack from coming.

I did a bit of research for myself, and the benefits of the ABC routine that I created for myself include the following. First, aerobics exercises keep the excess pounds at bay.

Although being perfectly lean is not a concern for somebody my age anymore, but if it affects your health, you should try to keep the excess pounds at bay. Second, aerobics exercises increase your stamina.

One note of warning, though, if you will commit to doing aerobics exercise, make sure that you will stick with it for a long time – because that is when you will get to experience the most benefits. Increased stamina and reduced fatigue are just some of the benefits that you will get to enjoy by doing regular aerobics training.

Warding off viral illnesses, boosting your mood, allowing you to stay active during your senior year and living a longer life – these are the other health benefits of doing regular aerobics exercises.

As for me, the most important advantage of doing these exercises is that they boost the strength of my heart. The movements will make your heart beat stronger by efficiently pumping blood to all parts of your body. It also keeps your arteries clear by lessening the build up of plaques. In my case, it is these last two benefits which I mostly need because again, I couldn’t afford to suffer from a second heart attack anymore.

One final note – before doing aerobics exercises, make sure to get the OK of your doctor first. In my case, it was something which the doctor gave a
heads up for. Right now, not only do I feel lighter and more carefree while doing the aerobics exercises – but the activity also wards off a second heart attack from coming, allowing me to enjoy what I consider to be a second leash on life.
