Reasearching High-Paying Keywords for Fitness AdSense Sites

One of my readers asked if I could post some high-paying keywords for him to write about on his health and fitness blog, which is monetized by showing Google Ad Sense ads.

“Give a man a fish; you have fed him for today. Teach a man to fish; and you have fed him for a lifetime.” That was the original. But I like this one better: “Give a man a fish; you have fed him for today. Teach a man to fish; and you can sell him fishing equipment.”

So let’s say, hypothetically, that I have some fitness sites designed to make money from Ad Sense. How would I find out what kind of content to put up in order to attract high-paying Ad Sense ads?

Step 1:
Google a high-cost term. For instance, “Fitness” or “Diet”.

Step 2:
Write down the top three paid listing domains. These are people who obviously have a lot of money to spend on high-priced terms which probably have extremely low conversion rates. They’re the 800-pound gorillas.

Step 3:
Go to SpyFu and type in their domain to see what terms they are bidding on.

Step 4:
Write down what you see under the Advertisements column.

Step 5:
Go to the Overture Bid Tool and search for the bid amounts on each of these.

Step 6:
Write about the highest-paying terms.

Step 7:
Watch your Ad Sense profits reach new heights now that you are no longer posting blindly and are writing with certain high-paying keywords in mind.

Some other tips:
Join affiliate networks like Commission Junction, Linkshare and Share-a-Sale. This will tell you who is active in search marketing, and will also allow you to join their program and make money by sending people to their websites. In many cases, this can pay much higher returns than AdSense, although the best option is to diversify your income channels. Never put all of your eggs in one basket. Write about brand names. While you can’t run your own PPC ads with brand names in the copy, many PPC arbitrage sites do bid on major brand names (despite TOS rules) and the cost-per-click (CPC) can get very high at times.

Speaking of eggs, check out CrazyEgg. It’s free to try, very useful and extremely addictive. If they had an affiliate program, this would be a good time for me to insert their affiliate link and make some extra revenue by sending you over there. Unfortunately, they do not. But you should go anyway. ;-) www.crazyegg.com .

Here is a good article about how to monetize “How To” articles.

Enjoy.
