GT Xpress 101 Cooker - And Express Way to Make Healthy Meals?

The GT Xpress-101 is sort of like the George Foreman grill, but instead of being flat for cooking steaks and burgers, it has a deeper cooking well - or multiple wells - so you can cook actual meals.

GT Express Cooker

I have read some bad reviews, ok reviews, and raving reviews about the GT Xpress101. There seem to be all different kinds of opinions out there about it. But none of them approach the GT Xpress 101 from the angle of making express healthy meals.

So I wanted to ask my readers, and anyone who stops by this blog post, what they think about it. Have you used the GT Xpress machine to make healthy meals? If so, how did they turn out? Are you happy with it? Do you have any good GT Xpress Recipes you can share with us?

I want to get a few responses from fellow health-nuts before going out and buying one of these myself. Thanks!

  1. I love this item to make all kinds of things. It tends to cook eggs really really well. I like shredding cooked potatoes and mixing this with other veggie items like peppers, onions, tomatoes and what ever left over items you think would go well inside. It makes a nice browned outer side and slips out of the cooker very easily. This has got to one of the best cooking inventions around. It is worth the investment. Chris Condit Salt Lake City, UT

  2. Well I am new at the sprouts game - started sprouting about a month ago and interested in finding recipes myself - few out there that I can find so I invented this one which even my wife loves:

    1 pita bread, small (around 7-8 inches), halved
    2 tsp mayo applied to inside of both halves
    2 each thin slices of ham
    1 each thick slice of Swiss cheese
    2 tsp brown mustard
    1 cup clover or alfalfa spouts
    1/2 each small onion, finely diced
    2 tsp green chili salsa, mild
    1 each large slice tomato, halved

    For each half pita after coating inside with mayo, slip inside the following:
    - take a slice ham and coat with mustard;
    - take 1/2 Swiss cheese slice and put on upper part of slice of ham;
    - add 1/2 slice tomato on top of cheese
    - add 1 tsp green chili salsa on top of tomato
    - sprinkle tomato with half of the finely diced onions and half the sprouts
    - fold the remaining covered ham over sprouts
    - insert package into pita
    - repeat for second half pita

    When both halves are finished, insert in heated GT Xpress101 and close. We wait for 2 cycles of the on/off light - when it goes off the second time, remove and enjoy - they are absolutely delicious!

  3. I bought the GT Xpress 101 with reservations. I think it is awesome for one or two people. My husband leaves for work early and comes home late. I hate to cook large meals for myself. Since buying the cooker I am eating more often and the meals are great. I cook scrambled eggs, add ham, cheese, onions, celery, or anything I can find in the fridge and wrap all in a soft taco shell. I then put the wrapped taco shell with its contents into the cooker and presto I have a full healthy easy to fix meal. I gave a cooker to my daughter who also uses the soft taco shell to wrap food and after cooking in the cooker sends the “taco” with her husband to work. This “taco” is easy to eat while he is unloading or loading the truck.

  4. Well, I can tell you it cooks eggs great, but it DOES NOT hold up to the easy clean up it claims. It REQUIRES you to use cooking oil, or spray or something like that, or believe me, YOU WILL BE SORRY WHEN YOU START TO CLEAN IT OUT> Good product, but they should not make claims it is so easy!

  5. if anyone knows where i can get a text version of the recipe please let me know. seems like they could work with any omelet/crepe or panini-type maker and maybe you could even do do meats in a waffle-maker (mine also has a hinged lid) so why is this product better?

  6. I love that there is no flipping required. Twice baked potatos are very easy to make with it as well. It also seems to be perfectly portioned.
