I read this book when I first started watching mixed martial arts and ever since have been able to appreciate the fights, even when they go to the ground and seem “boring” by people who (like myself a year ago) who don’t know what’s going on. MMA is truly an art form.

I remember the very first UFC. I was heavily into martial arts back then, and no one had even heard of MMA. Anyhow, the Gracie’s really opened up everyone’s eyes to the power of grappling as a martial art. It really was virtually no holds barred. Now, they have all these rules, and I suppose the rules have helped make the sport more main-stream, but I do miss the old days. It’ll be interesting to read this book, just to see how the sport has evolved.
