GT Xpress 101 Cooker – And Express Way to Make Healthy Meals?

The GT Xpress-101 is sort of like the George Foreman grill, but instead of being flat for cooking steaks and burgers, it has a deeper cooking well – or multiple wells – so you can cook actual meals.

Note: The GT Xpress grill has been updated by the Redi Set Go Xpress Cooker (pictured below), a much better product from the makers of the GT Xpress.

GT Express Cooker

I have read some bad reviews, ok reviews, and raving reviews about the GT Xpress101. There seem to be all different kinds of opinions out there about it. But none of them approach the GT Xpress 101 from the angle of making express healthy meals.

So I wanted to ask my readers, and anyone who stops by this blog post, what they think about it. Have you used the GT Xpress machine to make healthy meals? If so, how did they turn out? Are you happy with it? Do you have any good GT Xpress Recipes you can share with us?

I want to get a few responses from fellow health-nuts before going out and buying one of these myself. Thanks!

I love this item to make all kinds of things. It tends to cook eggs really really well. I like shredding cooked potatoes and mixing this with other veggie items like peppers, onions, tomatoes and what ever left over items you think would go well inside. It makes a nice browned outer side and slips out of the cooker very easily. This has got to one of the best cooking inventions around. It is worth the investment. Chris Condit Salt Lake City, UT

Well I am new at the sprouts game – started sprouting about a month ago and interested in finding recipes myself – few out there that I can find so I invented this one which even my wife loves:

1 pita bread, small (around 7-8 inches), halved
2 tsp mayo applied to inside of both halves
2 each thin slices of ham
1 each thick slice of Swiss cheese
2 tsp brown mustard
1 cup clover or alfalfa spouts
1/2 each small onion, finely diced
2 tsp green chili salsa, mild
1 each large slice tomato, halved

For each half pita after coating inside with mayo, slip inside the following:
- take a slice ham and coat with mustard;
- take 1/2 Swiss cheese slice and put on upper part of slice of ham;
- add 1/2 slice tomato on top of cheese
- add 1 tsp green chili salsa on top of tomato
- sprinkle tomato with half of the finely diced onions and half the sprouts
- fold the remaining covered ham over sprouts
- insert package into pita
- repeat for second half pita

When both halves are finished, insert in heated GT Xpress101 and close. We wait for 2 cycles of the on/off light – when it goes off the second time, remove and enjoy – they are absolutely delicious!

I bought the GT Xpress 101 with reservations. I think it is awesome for one or two people. My husband leaves for work early and comes home late. I hate to cook large meals for myself. Since buying the cooker I am eating more often and the meals are great. I cook scrambled eggs, add ham, cheese, onions, celery, or anything I can find in the fridge and wrap all in a soft taco shell. I then put the wrapped taco shell with its contents into the cooker and presto I have a full healthy easy to fix meal. I gave a cooker to my daughter who also uses the soft taco shell to wrap food and after cooking in the cooker sends the “taco” with her husband to work. This “taco” is easy to eat while he is unloading or loading the truck.

Well, I can tell you it cooks eggs great, but it DOES NOT hold up to the easy clean up it claims. It REQUIRES you to use cooking oil, or spray or something like that, or believe me, YOU WILL BE SORRY WHEN YOU START TO CLEAN IT OUT> Good product, but they should not make claims it is so easy!

if anyone knows where i can get a text version of the recipe please let me know. seems like they could work with any omelet/crepe or panini-type maker and maybe you could even do do meats in a waffle-maker (mine also has a hinged lid) so why is this product better?

I love that there is no flipping required. Twice baked potatos are very easy to make with it as well. It also seems to be perfectly portioned.

i found the gt xpress books on ebay, you can get them in ebook and print them out yourself, got 18 different booklets for 15.00, thought it was a great deal considering they charge 10.00+ for 3 booklets in the club

I got the GT express for christmas from my mom. I thought it was another gimmick. I finally tried it last month. I LOVE IT! I cook tacos real quick and easy for my 6 year old and I can hide the veggies inside the tacos and he never even realizes he is eating veggies. he just thinks tacos…yum… thanks for inventing this and it rocks!

I love it. For two of us, it is the best thing ever. I am always looking for new recipes to use in the GT/Xpress101
Thanks

The GT Xpress is a great kitchen tool for college students and busy moms but I find it a little annoying that stuff sticks to it so easily after a few months. Maybe I should use more PAM.

The cooker is unique and cooks ok however the flipper is the cheapest thing in the entire universe. Plan on cleaning your counter/floor after using.

I do not know how to contact you , I am using this method.
I had some trouble getting through when the special offer was on
t.v. when I did, this “recording” just about drove me nuts with all the special offers! Then I realized I was not getting the special offer. I hung up with no way to get a “real” person.
I WANT TO CANCEL MY ORDER PLEASE.

I bought the Xpress 101 several years ago. I LOVE it. I’ve never had a problem with the clean up, but I do use cooking spray before adding ingredients. There is a new version of the cooker called the Xpress Redi Set Go. This version has a timer and removable inserts creating different shape pans. I’ve been so happy with my first purchase that I purchased the new model. Haven’t gotten it yet, but I expect similarly great results. The cooker is so easy to use and perfect for one or two servings.

Absolutely the worst customer service of any company that I have ever dealt with. No way to alter the order even when they mistakenly add charges to the order. Unbelievablely high shipping and handling charges. I will never order from this company again.

Ordered the item well over 2 weeks ago and have not received it yet so cannot comment on the product itself. Offer was for “2 easy payments of $19.99 + S/H”. My account was hit for $77.70 for the first “easy payment of $19.99″. When I called Customer Service, found out I was paying for lots of products I didn’t order. All they offered was a $10 discount on my next “easy payment of $19.99″. Looks like I will be paying around $100 for a $40 item. Better work well!

Absolutely love mine. Use it morning and evenings. I am single and this is perfect for cooking for one. Have been buying them on ebay… I had read about the problems of ordering from the TV ads. I have been buying them for all my family…. both the single units and the double units. No complaints from anyone. WE all love them. I bought one on ebay that had 35 books with it… and they gave me ideas for creating my own recipes. Shop EBAY for great deals… and much less shipping costs…. but don’t bid against me LOL.

Love it! I got the newer version “Ready Set Go” and I find it more versatile than the original because it has different inserts. Pancakes come out like you’ve never tasted before! Best appliance that I’ve bought in a long while! I threw away my “toaster oven”. This does so much more!
