The Craziest Fitness Gadgets and Weight Loss Gimmicks of All Time
Is it possible to mentally heal a wound faster? Can your mind promote the healing of internal injuries or stop the spreading of cancerous cells? Many well-known scientists, philosophers, doctors and spiritual leaders think so. The connection between our minds and our bodies is strong. So many things happen in response to sickness or injury without us having to even think about it (blood clotting, adrenaline surges, white blood cell production...) that one can only imagine what we could be capable of if we could somehow consciously tap into our mind/body connection. Then again, what makes us think our conscious mind knows any better about what to do than our unconscious mind? Is reason more effective than instinct and evolution? One could go down the rabbit hole pretty far with the concept of mind / body healing. Rather than blabber on about it, we're going to provide some links to other sites where you can learn from experts in the field of healing the body with the mind through meditation, visualization, breathing and other exercises.
Mind - Body Healing Resources:
www.paulwaters.com
Paul Waters is a counselor, healer and philosopher living in Hawaii. This link goes to his page about healing with the mind where Paul feels that mental healing is something we can all do, but that it takes training and repetition like anything else we learn. He says: "We are all born with these gifts. When we learn to walk, for example, we use the directive part of our mind to tell the active part to take a step. Through repetition the active mind develops a working sequence effective to that end. This activates the confidence in its procedure, resulting in the creation of our ability to walk." Sounds simple, doesn't it?
Healing And The Mind: by Bill Moyers
This Book, written by Bill Moyers in the mid-nineties, discusses the roles of thoughts and emotions in healing through interviews with 16 doctors and scientists from around the world. Mr. Moyers also travels to the far East to study ancient healing methods like Chi Gong, acupuncture, meditation and therapeutic massage. In doing so, he uncovers some meaning about the manipulation of vital energy to ameliorate chronic neurological and muscular diseases. Among the many experts interviewed for this book are University of California physician Dean Ornish, who claims to have reversed heart disease in patients with treatments combining meditation, stress-reduction exercises, group therapy, walking and vegetarian diet; neurobiologist David Felten, who discovered nerve fibers that link the nervous system to the immune system.
Cancer Prevention
Many publications on the subject center around healing, but there are a few that discuss prevention as well. This particular book focuses mostly on ways you can consciously prevent cancer, such as diet, reducing stress and other forms of conscious prevention. It is not so much about mental healing as being aware of your habits.
Healing Celebrations
This book is about miraculous recoveries brought about by ancient scriptures, natural medicine and modern science. It is a holistic approach to healing that combines the mind-body connection with advances in medical technology, as well as ancient healing techniques.
The Healing Mind Series
These multi-media training courses claim to teach you about subjects like guided imagery for self healing, and fighting cancer from within by using the power of your mind for healing.
Energy Healing with Donna Eden
In this book, Donna Eden talks about how the human body is designed to maintain health and overcome illness. She maintains that conscious involvement in your own health is necessary to tap into your body's inherent power to heal itself. Within these pages she explores this 5,000-year-old perspective on healing, and offers a systematic program for self-care.
The Healing Power of the Mind
This popular book by Tulku Thondup, claims that our minds possess the power to heal, relieve pain and create joy from within. More than just another introduction to meditation, Thondup's book is a rich survey of the healing resources inherent in Nyingma Buddhism, the oldest school of Buddhism in Tibet, offered by one of the truly distinguished exemplars of the ancient monastic tradition rapidly being extinguished by the Chinese occupation of Tibet.
The Energetics of Healing
This book by Caroline Myss examines what's called your "energetic anatomy" - what many people refer to as auras an chakras - or even your soul. Made of pure energy, this part of your anatomy helps determine how your body functions and heals.
