Out of the many blog monetization options we have tried over the years on some of our other fitness blogs, one stands out above the rest for style, relevancy and conversion rates - Chitika.

We have tried the Yahoo Publisher Network (YPN), Google AdSense, AuctionAds, Pay-Per-Post and many other blog monetization options for some of our fitness blogs. YPN is not terrible, but they don’t seem to have the ad inventory that Google has. Speaking of Google, they are ok but the payment per click just isn’t what it used to be - which is strange considering the bids are higher for every keyword out there… Pay-Per-Post works, but you put the reputation of your blog on the line, which in the long run isn’t a sustainable monetization option. And as for the AuctionAds platform, it was the worst. No matter what we tried we just could not get relevant auctions to show, which is sad because we really like Shoemoney and think the idea of showing current EBay auction bids for products related to your blog is a great idea. But if the blog post is about yoga mats, you don’t want to show an auction for a cell phone or a hand bag. You want yoga mats.

Then there’s Chitikia, which stands out above the rest. The money you make from displaying these ads on your blog can put the rest of them to shame if done right. Luckily, Chitika has forums where other publishers discuss what does and doesn’t work.

As for the ad unit, they are unique, stylish and highly relevant. Here are some examples…

Our advice would be to try to make money from your fitness blog using many different channels, from affiliate marketing to contextual advertising via PPC, and even CPM deals (cost per 1,000 impressions) if you have enough traffic. But the quickest, most stylish and easiest way we have found to make money blogging is by providing quality information along with relevant ads from Chitika.
