In Search of the Marketing “Magic Wand”

Are you in search of the marketing “magic wand” – someone or something that can be waived over your business and magically grow it with little effort or investment? Possibly a fantastic advertising piece, direct mailer or maybe a press release about the amazing and unique services you offer at your business that the media picks up, covers and droves of people come swarming into your business.

Well, the truth of the matter is there is no such thing – the closest thing to that “magic wand” is smart planning and implementation, which may include extra work on your part and the part of others, but it does have a high pay off. Your best chance of success is planning. Various studies indicate that anywhere from 85-95% of small businesses fail within the first five years because of lack of planning and lack of marketing skills.

Ask yourself, in your type of business, are you doing the fundamentals?
Many times business owners are not and sometimes it is because they don’t really know what those fundamentals for their business are, or think the fundamentals will take too much effort. This is where the marketing plan plays an important role. A good marketing plan will cover those fundamentals as well as other ways to reach your target market and drive traffic to your business. But, a marketing plan is only as good as the implementation and tracking of it goes. A marketing plan is a working document, which outlines your goals, marketing strategies and tactics. It also assists in tracking the marketing tactics to determine the return on investment (ROI) of each tactic.

Whether you attempt to write a marketing plan on your own, or hire a professional to assist you get through this critical process, it is a very important document needed to grow a business. Think of a marketing plan as the next best thing to the “magic wand”.

First Page Fitness can help you create this all-important document. Contact us to learn more about marketing plans for your health or fitness business.

Who is Billy Blanks? Got Tae Bo?

Billy Blanks has made a few recent television appearances, which have been driving up demand on search engines for keywords like Billy Blanks, Tae Bo, Billy’s Bootcamp and Tae Bo Amped. Affiliate marketing, even with Google Adsense, is all about timing your marketing efforts with search demands. And right now Demand for Billy Blanks is High!

Billy Blanks

People love his Tae Bo DVDs, and for good reason. They’re tough! We’re not talking about some namby-pamby Richard Simons Sweating to the Oldies. Billy Blanks is the real deal, and his products sell like hotcakes for that very reason.

Here is a link to the Billy Blanks affiliate program, which is part of GT Media, which also sells the GT Xpress Cooker and other health and fitness-related products.

Who is Billy Blanks?

Billy Blanks began his celebrity-status identity march back in the mid 80’s by starting in action-packed B movies like Martial Law, The Storm, The Parent “Hood”, Soldier of Fortune, Inc, Kiss the Girls, Tough and Deadly, Back in Action, Street Justice, Bloodfist, etcetera.

Billy Blanks is probably best known for having invented Tae-Bo, a form of Cardio Kickboxing taught in videos like Billy’s Bootcamp Elite and Tae Bo studios around the world.

Water Purifier Affiliate Programs

Water Purifier and Filter Affiliate ProgramI have tested out a few water purifier affiliate programs over the last few months, and have found one in-particular to convert quite well. Not only are conversions good with this program, but each one pays nearly $300. The program is Water For Life USA and the product is called the KYK Harmony Water Ionizer.

The unique selling point seems to be that you get two products in one: A water ionizer and a water filter. One of the things I mentioned on the affiliate conversion test page is that, although water ionization has its skeptics, the product is actually a high-quality water filter as well. At best, you’re marketing an affiliate program that provides numerous health benefits, including greater energy, better oxygen intake and improved digestion. At worst, you are marketing a superior water filtration system that removes 99.99% of all drinking water pollutants, measures water intake, senses the Ph balance of drinking water, can handle 7,000 liters of water over nine months on a single filter, and has a five year warranty on parts and labor!

The website for this water filter affiliate program includes more resources than I’ve found on any other affiliate program, including video content, expert testimonials from medical professionals, and dozens of high-quality, sales-driven articles. The commission, at 25%, is about the same as most other water filter affiliate programs, but the quality of the product is high enough to demand a bigger price tag, which means more commissions for you.

If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em: The Art of Piggyback SEO

(Note: This blog entry was written for those of you who are taking the DYI approach to search engine marketing. If you want to truly “beat ‘em,” you should contact First Page Fitness for professional search engine optimization services).

Have you ever tried a ‘local’ search on Google and been frustrated by the lack of local businesses that appear in the results? Take a look at this example where I searched for ‘gym in denver’ on Google:
Google results for Gym in Denver
Not counting the new Top 3 Local One Box results, only 1 of the ‘organic’ top 10 results is actually a gym in Denver. Every other ranking site is a ‘host’ site where either for free, or a reasonable cost, your business can be listed. Out of these top 10 results you can get a free listing on Yahoo Local, SuperPages, YellowPages.com, Craigslist, and City Search (Yellow page section via InfoUsa Listing). Considering that some of these sites have ‘indented’ listings your business could easily appear on 7 of the top 10 ten sites listed in these results for FREE. In addition you could also buy leads from healthclubdirectory.com to seal a listing on 9 out of 10 websites returned in this query.

Gaining listings (and hopefully links) from these sites is called Piggyback SEO. This technique is an excellent stopgap measure until you can get your own site ranking in the top 10 for your keywords. A good approach to take advantage of this technique is to brainstorm several keywords you’d like to be found with on Google and run queries on each one. Jot down the sites that come up and then contact the ones you’d most like to be listed on. Pretty soon your phone should be ringing with customers!

Granted, some of the free listings you’ll get won’t be on the first page returned by these direcoty sites . However, sponsored ads are usually available to get your business into a position with potential. In the next few posts I’ll explore some of these sponsored directory listings and explain how to select the right options for your business. In the meantime keep up your SEO work so one day you won’t have to pay tp be listed (long term at least :) Stay tuned …
